Education Reform

Chris also works on Education Reform

developing an Early College High School partnership with
Jobs for the Future, New York University, the San Diego Unified School District, and Foundation for California Community Colleges.   The program brings high school student to college, beginning in 9th grade to work on college readiness skills, English and Math, and much more.  The program also works  to align curriculum between colleges and high schools, reduce remediation, and give faculty and administrators to work collaboratively to strengthen the educational community overall.

"Since 2002, the partner organizations of the Early College High School Initiative have started or redesigned 240+ schools serving more than 75,000 students in 28 states and the District of Columbia. The schools are designed so that low-income youth, first-generation college goers, English language learners, students of color, and other young people underrepresented in higher education can simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an Associate’s degree or up to two years of credit toward a Bachelor’s degree—tuition free."

Early College High School Summer Program

A Jan 2010 Documentary on our inaugural Early College High School Summer Program between San Diego City College and San Diego High School—narrated by Pedro Noguera:

In the summer of 2010, a cohort of incoming 10th graders from San Diego High School took part in a Pilot Enrichment Program at San Diego City College. The curriculum for the four-week course (Business 92, Building a Better Community) was specifically designed to develop cognitive strategies essential to college course-taking. It's an inspirational story in an urban environment - and it's an example of just one phase of a nationwide effort to better prepare students for successful participation in college.
